Had a chance to spend an hour with Dan Roberts, Director of Solaris Product Management at Oracle for quick ‘reassure the customer’ meeting. It’s good to hear some reassurance. It’s not good to be be in a position where you need to be reassured.
His message was pretty much:
- Solaris isn’t dead.
- Oracle is committed to Solaris on SPARC and x64.
- Oracle is adding resources to Solaris development and marketing.
I hope he’s right.
At this point, I’d hate to have to move to another flavor of Unix. I’d view that as a step backwards, even with the recent bugs & support challenges.
